Art and Research on Layered Landscapes in Transition

Exploded View invites makers and thinkers from various disciplines to explore transitional landscapes from their heritage background. The goal is to make the various layers visible and experiential, as in an ‘exploded view’, in order to develop new perspectives and visions on these parks within a contemporary urban environment. The project focuses on the Parco Regionale dell’Appia Antica in Rome and the Amstelpark in Amsterdam. Exploded View brings together artists, designers, landscape architects and stakeholders with the public to activate these very diverse parks for the future. The research will result in an exhibition and various events in the summer and autumn of 2019.

Exploded View is a collaboration between Gert-Jan Burgers (Director CLUE+/Heritage studies Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), Krien Clevis (curator Appian Park) and Alice Smits (curator Zone2Source, Amstelpark), with the Parco Regionale dell’Appia Antica and the Accademia di Belli Arti in Rome, as well as the Cultural Heritage Agency, Amsterdam/Amersfoort.
